Nick Hitchon, also known as William Nicholas Guy Hitchon, was a well-known person who was renowned for his meek and modest demeanor as well as his voracious curiosity about life. He was born on October 22, 1957, hence he was always one year younger than the Seven Up! episodes in which he starred. Nick was raised on a modest farm in the Yorkshire Dales village of Arncliffe.

His intense interest in studying about the moon and the stars inspired him to pursue a degree in physics at Merton College in Oxford. Nick was just 19 years old and already engrossed in his post-graduate studies at the institution when 21 Up was being filmed.

In Madison, Wisconsin, where he was a university professor, Nicholas Hitchon, whose life was followed in the acclaimed British Up documentary films from a precocious age 7 in 1964 to 63 in the 2019 part, passed away from throat cancer. He was 65.
His passing on July 23 was only recently reported on the website of the University of Wisconsin. In the most recent installment of the series, 63 Up, Hitchon revealed his struggle with cancer.
