A king cake, often referred to as a three kings cake, is a cake that is connected to Epiphany in many cultures. Although its composition and form might vary, it typically contains a fève, such as a figure that is frequently claimed to represent the Christ Child.

Whoever gets the fève after the cake has been cut receives a prize. The King cake custom has been connected with the Epiphany since the 19th century.
The three kings, or Magi, of the Bible, Melchior, Balthazar, and Gaspard who visited Jesus twelve days after his birth and brought him gifts are the inspiration for the name of the Three Kings cake.

Are King Cakes fried?
Typically, king cake is made of a rich, brioche dough and a wide array of fillings, such as cinnamon, chocolate, and cream cheese.
But the rainbow magic is found in the glaze and sprinkles, which are usually gold, green, and purple. Even the colors of the icing (and the royal colors of Mardi Gras) have a deeper meaning.
How long will a king cake last?
A King Cake will stay fresh longer if refrigerated. It can be kept in a refrigerator for up to four (4) days and can even be frozen for up to three (3) months! Before serving simply remove it from the plastic bag and serve at room temperature.
