Barreal started his professional life at Vélez Sarsfield. The midfielder was added to the club’s first team roster at the start of the 2018–19 season by Gabriel Heinze. He chose him for his professional debut on September 2 at La Bombonera against Boca Juniors; he came on for Lucas Robertone with 32 minutes left in the game. On February 3rd, 2019, he scored his debut goal against River Plate.
