Donald Kenneth Sundquist was a businessman and politician from Tennessee who served as the 47th Governor from 1995 to 2003.

Prior to becoming governor, he served in the United States House of Representatives for Tennessee’s 7th congressional district from 1983 to 1995. He belonged to the Republican Party.
Sundquist was appointed to lead a nationwide council to improve Medicaid in July 2005. HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt appointed the group. In 2008, he was the state vice-chair of John McCain’s presidential campaign team.
Sundquist became a lobbyist after leaving office, working for the business he co-founded, Sundquist Anthony, now known as the Sundquist Group.

Don Sundquist cause of death: What happened to Don Sundquist?
Don Sundquist, a Republican who was twice elected governor of Tennessee and also served 12 years in Congress, died Sunday. He was 87.
Sundquist died at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis on Sunday morning, according to a family spokeswoman.
He died peacefully, surrounded by family members, following surgery and a short illness, according to a statement Sunday morning from Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee’s office.
