John Michael Tolkin is a left-back for the Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls and the United States national team.

Tolkien made his professional debut on July 10, 2019, as a second-half replacement in a 4-3 win over Bethlehem Steel. During the game, he provided his first professional assist on Tom Barlow’s equalizer in the 82nd minute.
Tolkien was selected as the New York Red Bulls Defender of the Year for the 2022 season on November 18, 2022.
On August 20, 2023, Toklin scored his first goal of the season for New York, an 88th-minute free kick, to lead his club to a 1-0 victory over rival DC United.
