Who Is Maggie Haney?
Maggie Haney is a controversial gymnastics trainer who in the course of her career, has bagged suspensions from the USA Gymnastics, following series of allegations bordering on verbal and emotional abuse.
Some of the complaints included Haney “instructing injured gymnasts to remove casts and continue training, yelling at and threatening gymnasts.”

Haney began her career as a gymnast at the age of three, and attended North Carolina State University, where she took part in the women’s gymnastics program for three years, and ranked amongst the best.
Haney began her coaching career in 2007, and has had athletes from her program on the national team roster.
She had coached 2016 Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez and 2018 World champion Riley McCusker.
During the course of training, some gymnasts have sustained severe injuries under Haney’s tutelage.
Following further cases of injuries, verbal and emotional abuses, Haney received a 5-year suspension in 2019.
