Kara DioGuardi, an American songwriter, record producer, music publisher, A&R executive, and vocalist, was born on December 9, 1970. She specializes in writing pop rock music. DioGuardi has collaborated with numerous well-known musicians; more than 160 million records with her songs on them have been sold globally. DioGuardi has won 20 BMI Awards for co-writing the songs with the highest radio airplay, including the 2011 NAMM Music for Life Award, 2009 NMPA Songwriter Icon Award, and 2007 BMI Pop Songwriter of the Year.

For the eighth and ninth seasons of American Idol, DioGuardi acted as a judge. She signed artists including Jason Derulo and Iyaz after being appointed executive vice president of talent development at Warner Bros. Records in 2008.

Ossining, New York, is where DioGuardi was born. She is descended from an Italian Arbresh (Albanian) minority. Her father, Joe DioGuardi, ran for the US Senate in 2010 as a Republican. After a seven-year fight with ovarian cancer, her mother Carol passed away in 1997.
