American writer Warren McClamroch Hoge was born on April 13, 1941, and has spent the majority of his long career at The New York Times.
James F. Hoge, Sr. (1901–1972) and Virginia McClamroch were Hoge’s parents. James F. Hoge, Jr., his older brother, was the former editor of Foreign Affairs, a magazine produced by the Council on Foreign Relations. James F. Hoge, Jr. was born in 1935. Barbara Hoge Daine, a sister and the eldest Hoge sibling, passed away in 2001. Virginia Howe Hoge is the youngest sibling.

Hoge attended both Yale University and the Trinity School. Additionally, he pursued graduate studies at George Washington University. In 1964, he served in the American Army, and from 1965 to 1970, he was a member of the Army Reserve.
