Sergey Surovikin, a Russian army general (born on October 11, 1966), was the Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces from 2017 until Vladimir Putin removed him from his position in 2023. Veteran of the Second Chechen War, Soviet-Afghan War, Tajikistani Civil War, and Russian military engagement in the Syrian Civil War, he oversaw all Russian forces during the Russian invasion of Ukraine from October 2022 to January 2023.

Surovikin was arrested for several months but was never found guilty for commanding a unit that killed three anti-coup protesters during the failed Soviet coup d’état in 1991.
