Served as Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces from 2017 until he was ousted by Vladimir Putin in 2023, Sergey Surovikin (born 11 October 1966) is a Russian army general. Veteran of the Second Chechen War, Tajikistani Civil War, Soviet-Afghan War, and Russian military engagement in the Syrian Civil War, he oversaw all Russian forces during the Russian invasion of Ukraine from October 2022 to January 2023.

Surovikin led a unit that killed three anti-coup protesters during the failed coup d’état attempt in the Soviet Union in 1991. He was imprisoned for a while but was never found guilty for the crime. The Main Directorate of the Military Police, a new organization inside the Russian army, was founded with a significant contribution from him.
