Terry Funk, a Hall of Fame professional wrestler whose brutal combat style in the ring sparked decades of violent altercations and thrilling contests, has passed away. He was 79.

Mr. Funk’s wrestling career, which he began in the middle of the 1960s and spanned four decades, brought him across the nation and abroad, from performing for W.W.E. before sold-out crowds to thrilling wrestling fans in the expanding Japanese market with All Japan.

He immediately gained a reputation as a tough wrestler who used a variety of homemade weapons against opponents, including chairs, ladders, barbed wire, bats, and fire.
He visited World Championship Wrestling in 1989, and it was there that he faced Mr. Flair in one of his most renowned career matches.

Vicki Funk, Terry Funk’s sister, and Dory Funk Jr., a former professional wrestler and trainer best known for his work in the NWA and WWF, are his siblings.

In addition to being a wrestler and promoter, his brother Dory Jr. was also a wrestler. He was raised in West Texas after being born in Indiana. He participated in professional wrestling throughout the 1970s in the National Wrestling Alliance’s Florida division, winning the NWA Worlds Heavyweight title in 1975. Terry made his professional début in Japan at the same time, working with Dory Jr. on All Japan throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
