The San Diego Chargers of the National Football League were the team Daniel Francis Fouts played for his entire 15-season tenure as a professional quarterback in the game.

Fouts broke a number of records while playing college football for the Oregon Ducks, and he was later elected to the University of Oregon Hall of Fame as well as the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
When the University of Oregon offered Fouts a scholarship so he could play for the Ducks in Eugene, he was a bit of an unknown. During his first year there (1969), he made his debut for the freshman team.
When Adam Sandler’s football comedy The Waterboy came out in 1998, Fouts made his debut on the big screen by playing himself.

Julianne Mehl, a public health major, and Fouts tied the knot in 1977. At the University of Oregon, the two had become friends.
After their subsequent divorce, Fouts wed Jeri Martin in 1994, becoming his second husband. His first marriage produced two children Suzanne and Dominic Fouts, and his second produced another two including Suzanne Krueger.
Dominic, his first son, passed away from cancer in 2012. The Dominic Fouts Memorial Cancer Fund was established by the family with Dan Fouts serving as an advisor.
His wife and he reside in a two-story log home he built in the 1970s in Oregon, his alma mater state. The residence is located close to Sisters in the Alps.
