Who Is Dominique Dawes?

Dominique Dawes is a former member of the United States women’s gymnastics team, also known as the “Magnificent Seven.”

She had helped the team win the gold medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Dawes competed for the United States from 1989 to 2000, and was named U.S. all-around senior National Champion in 1994.

The American-born Olympian began her career in gymnastics at age 10, and later attended the University of Maryland.

She was the first African American woman to win an individual Olympic gymnastics medal, earning a bronze in the floor exercise at the 1996 Games.

Dawes is a World Championship silver and bronze medalist, and a three-time Olympian, making her one of only three female American gymnasts to compete in three Olympics.

She was known for her exceptional skills on the uneven bars and floor exercise.

Dawes retired from the sport in 2000, but has remained active in the gymnastics community as a coach, and commentator.
