Maxie Baughan Cause of Death

Maxie Baughan, a College Football Hall of Famer from Georgia Tech died of natural causes in Ithaca, New York, on August 19, 2023, at the age of 85.

Baughan, who played six seasons for the Eagles, died surrounded by family members, according to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said Baughan was known for “playing a tough, hard-nosed style of football. Maxie’s induction into the Eagles Hall of Fame in 2015 solidified his legacy and recognized his contributions to the team. Our hearts are with his wife, Dianne, and all Maxie’s family and friends as they mourn his passing.”

Maxie Baughan is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dianne, three children, Max, Mark and Matt, and eight grandchildren. Baughan was a native of Forkland, Alabama and was a linebacker and center for Georgia Tech coach Bobby Dodd.

In 1960, Philadelphia selected him in the second round, No. 20 overall. As a rookie with the Eagles’ 1960 NFL championship team, he made his first Pro Bowl participation.

Baughan played with the Los Angeles Rams from 1966 through 1970. He was an assistant coach at Georgia Tech from 1972 to 1973 before becoming a player-coach with the Washington Redskins in 1974.
