Kurt Zouma began his career at age nine with Vaulx-en-Velin until he was 15. Zouma joined Saint-Étienne in 2009 and signed his first professional contract on 2 April 2011.

On 7 June 2023, Kurt Zouma played in the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final, against Fiorentina in Prague. Kurt Zouma has been the captain of the French under-21 team.

On 11 June 2019, Kurt Zouma made his first start for the France senior team and played every minute of the match, scoring his first senior international goal, in the 4–0 away win over Andorra in a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying match.
Kurt Zouma made his professional debut at 16 years old, on 31 August 2011 in a Coupe de la Ligue match against Bordeaux, playing the entire match in a 3–1 win.
On 11 August 2019, Kurt Zouma made his first appearance of the season as a starter in the 4–0 away defeat to Manchester United. On 1 January 2020, Kurt Zouma marked his 100th appearance for the club as Chelsea drew 1–1 to Brighton & Hove Albion at Falmer Stadium.
