James Leavey children: Meet Jerome Leavey & Francesca Leavey

James Leavey was a journalist, author, actor, blogger, broadcaster, cigar enthusiast, and raconteur. His arduous professional journey began in 1964 when he accepted a position as road manager for The Villains, a band made up of classmates. From 1968 to 1970, he studied acting at Mountview Theatre School in north London.

James played Shakespeare in basketball arenas on Mountview’s first coast-to-coast tour of the US in 1970, in addition to appearing in a number of London plays and working front of house and backstage for West End performances of Cabaret, The Sound of Music, and Fiddler on the Roof. Backstage at the English National Opera in the 1990s was where he last performed on stage. In 2015, he was presented with The Snow Queen Cigar Writer of the Year award.

He changed jobs in 1984 and joined British Telecom’s marketing division, where he worked on the rollout of 0800 phone numbers and was tasked with creating some of the first video games, such as Booty, Elite, and Bird Strike, for Telecomsoft’s Firebird line of software.
