Ethan Katzberg is a Canadian hammer thrower. He competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, winning the silver medal in the men’s hammer throw. He is hoping to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Ethan Katzberg has won five of eight meets this spring and hasn’t finished off the podium in any of them, but the 21-year-old from Nanaimo, B.C., still doesn’t feel like he belongs in the cage with the world’s best hammer throwers.

“I feel like a poser,” he said Friday from Paris. “I’m throwing with people who I’ve watched throw for the past five years and I’m still in a bit of shock, right. And being competitive with them as well is kind of crazy to me. Like, what’s going on?”
Katzberg threw 77.93 meters on Friday to win a Diamond League promotional event featuring male and female competitors. Among Katzberg’s victims were two Americans; Rudy Winkler, who is the third-ranked male thrower on the planet, and Brooke Andersen, the world’s top-ranked female.
“It was definitely big, the second furthest throw of my career, so definitely good to do it at this meet,” Katzberg said. “I was kind of waiting for that to happen because I had quite a few meets at 76.50, I would say.
