American professional sprinter Fredrick Kerley (born May 7, 1995) began his career by participating in the 400 meters before switching to the 100 meters and 200 meters in 2020. He has won numerous medals at the World Championships in the 400-meter run and the 4×400-meter relay, including a gold medal for the relay in 2019 and a bronze for the individual. The 2022 edition saw 100 million gold claimed by Kerley.

He is the eighth fastest man to have ever run 400 meters thanks to his personal best performance of 43.64 seconds. In order to increase his foundational speed for upcoming attempts at a sub-43 400 m during the pandemic, Kerley decided to concentrate on the 100 m during the Olympic cycle.
