The epitome of a fighter and a true warrior is Rose Namajunas. When Rose enters the octagon, she loses her quiet demeanor and transforms into the brash personality that gives her the moniker “Thug Rose.”

The twice-declared women’s strawweight champion got her start in martial arts at the young age of five. She received taekwondo instruction, and by the time she was nine years old, had earned her junior black belt. She continued to train in karate and BJJ after that.

She began training in kickboxing and mixed martial arts while still in high school with Duke Roufus at Roufusport. She was also a wrestler in her senior year at Milwaukee High School of the Arts.

On January 5, 2013, she faced Emily Kagan in her first-ever professional match at Invicta FC 4: Esparza vs. Hyatt. Namajunas was able to win by submission after two back-and-forth rounds thanks to a rear-naked choke in round three. She also received the Submission of the Night bonus for her victory.
