American singer-songwriter Carly Rae Patterson is also a former artistic gymnast. She won the all-around title in the 2004 Summer Olympics, becoming the first American to do so in an Olympics that wasn’t boycotted. She is also a member of the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

In 1994, Patterson picked up the sport after going to a cousin’s birthday celebration at the Elite Gymnastics gym in Baton Rouge.
In the balance beam competition final on August 23, 2004, Patterson placed second to Cătălina Ponor of Romania with a score of 9.775 and earned the silver medal.
After the Olympics, in December 2011, she appeared on the television program Hollywood at Home. As the spokesperson for their 2012 organ donation challenge, Patterson teamed up with the Taylor’s Gift Foundation.
