Judy Garland obituary

In addition to performing live, Judy Garland acted in movies and musicals. She was a starlet whose appeal never waned, and she will be best known for her role in The Wizard of Oz and the song “Over the Rainbow.”

Frances Ethel Gumm was given the name Judy Garland on June 10, 1922 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. She was the last of Frank and Ethel Gumm’s three daughters who had previously performed in vaudeville (traveling variety shows). At her father’s playhouse, the New Grand playhouse, Judy started her career in show business before she turned three. The family quickly relocated to Los Angeles, California, where the weather was better than in isolated northern Minnesota.

An autopsy was planned because the 47-year-old singer’s cause of death could not be determined right away.
