Sir Michael Parkinson CBE was an English television host, broadcaster, journalist, and novelist who died on August 16, 2023. From 1971 to 1982 and from 1998 to 2007, he hosted his television chat show Parkinson. He also hosted various discussion shows and programs in the UK and abroad.

The Guardian referred to him as “the great British talkshow host” and noted that he also had a radio career.
Parkinson transitioned to television in the 1960s, producing current events shows for the BBC and Manchester-based Granada Television. From March 1966 to January 1968, he worked as a reporter and host for BBC1’s daily news magazine program Twenty-Four Hours, which aired five times per week.

John William Leonard Parkinson was Michael Parkinson’s father, and Freda M. Parkinson was his mother. On March 28, 1935, Michael Parkinson was born in Cudworth, West Yorkshire, England. He attended Barnsley Grammar School and later attended the University of London to study journalism.

Working for neighborhood newspapers and radio stations was how Parkinson got his start in journalism.
