Sylvia Fowles Basketball Career

Sylvia Fowles had a successful career in basketball that spanned many years, beginning from her days in Edison Senior High School, Gulliver Preparatory School, and Louisiana State University (LSU).

Fowles was drafted by the Chicago Sky in the 2008 WNBA draft, and went on to play for Galatasaray Medical Park, Shanghai Swordfish, Canik Belediyesi, Beijing Great Wall, and Minnesota Lynx, where she played for seven seasons until retirement.

During her career in the WNBA, Fowles won the WNBA MVP Award twice, the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year award four times, two WNBA Championships, the MVP of the WNBA Finals twice and was an eight-time WNBA All-Star.

In 2021, Fowles was listed amongst the top 25 WNBA players of all time.

Upon retirement, Fowles took to mortuary science that deals with embalming, cremation, and funeral directing.

She established the Sylvia Fowles Family Fund to assist indigent children.

Fowles also functions as a spokesperson for the Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy (CURE).
