His  influence encompasses an array of roles, from a music executive and producer to a manager and a powerful behind-the-scenes figure. His legacy extends beyond music, touching civil rights activism, business, and philanthropy, solidifying his position as a transformative force.

Avant’s imprint is deeply etched in the formation of Sussex Records, a label he established during the late 1960s. Under his guidance, Sussex Records became a platform for emerging talents, notably launching the career of the legendary Bill Withers, who achieved unprecedented success under the label’s umbrella.

Beyond music, Avant displayed entrepreneurial prowess by venturing into diverse entertainment arenas. From talent management to film production.

He was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on October 7, 2016, for his services to the recording business, which is placed at 6363 Hollywood Boulevard.

Avant earned the President’s Merit Award as a Grammy Icon in February 2018 at the Clive Davis Pre-Grammy Gala in Los Angeles. Avant was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on May 12, 2021, after receiving the Ahmet Ertegun award.
