Tamika Catchings says most of her communication happens through body language. As a child, Tamika had to cope with hearing and speech impediments and had to wear a hearing aid.

Tamika Catchings’ childhood was quite challenging as her hearing disability made her a target for bullies. Tamika Catchings played for both Adlai E. Stevenson High School and Duncanville High School, where she was named a WBCA All-American.

Tamika Catchings is one of only 11 women to receive an Olympic gold medal, an NCAA Championship, a Fiba World Cup gold, and a WNBA Championship.

In 2005, Catchings was also named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year. Catchings was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2020.

Tamika Catchings has also been selected to ten WNBA All-Star teams, 12 All-WNBA teams, and 12 All-Defensive teams and led the league in steals eight times.

In the 2016 season, Tamika Catchings caught her 3,308th rebound in a regular season game loss to the Minnesota Lynx becoming the WNBA all-time leader in regular season rebounds also passing Lisa Leslie.
