Hugh Segal Obituary

Former Canadian political executive, Hugh Segal has died at the age of 70. No cause of death was reported, however, it was announced that he died on Wednesday, August 9, 2023.

Tributes have been pouring in after his death was announced.

“Hugh Segal cared deeply about our country. He dedicated his life to public service. And he brought people together. Canada is a better place because of him. I’m sending my deepest condolences to his loved ones, and everyone who is mourning this loss,” Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau.

“Hugh Segal was a great Canadian. During my government, he served honorably in the Senate and stood up forcefully for Canadian values as my Commonwealth emissary. Laureen and I send our deepest condolences to Donna and their family,” Canadian former Prime Minister, Stephen Harper shared.

“It’s very sad news that Hugh Segal has died. We were contemporaries involved in politics while at university and both ran for Parliament in 1972. I’ll miss him for his intelligence, his commitment to service, his compassion and his lovely wit, which he often directed at himself,” President and CEO of Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Perrin Beatty.
