Doreen Mantle, South African-born British actress died in August 2023, at the age of 97.

In a statement, her agent said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved client and much loved stage, screen, and radio actress Doreen Mantle, aged 97. “She died peacefully at home. She is survived by her two sons, four grandchildren and one brother.”

Doreen Mantle was best known for her performance in One Foot in the Grave (1990-2000) as Jean Warboys. Since the 1960s, she has been in a number of British television shows, including The Duchess of Duke Street, The Wild House, Sam Saturday, Chalk, Casualty, The Bill, Doctors, Holby City, Lovejoy, and Jonathan Creek.
Her other film and television credits include My Family, Doctors, Dirk Gently, Jam and Jerusalem, Doc Martin, Jonathan Creek, and Yentl. Mantle’s stage career included the National Theatre’s production of Death of a Salesman, for which she received an Olivier Award for outstanding actress in a supporting role in 1979.
