Who was Arthur Schmidt? Oscar-Winning Editor of ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ Dead at 86

American editor, Arthur Schmidt who won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Who Framed Roger Rabbit, has been reported dead. He died at his home in Santa Barbara, California, on August 5, 2o23, at the age of 86.

He also won another Academy Award for his work on Forrest Gump (1994). He was a recipient of several editor’s awards including American Cinema Editors for Pirate of the Caribbean: The Curse of Black Pearl.

Schmidt learned a lot from his father Arthur P. Schmidt who was also a film editor. He graduated from Santa Clara University with a bachelor’s degree in English.  He started his career in the 1970s editing films like The Las Remake of Beau Gate, Jaw 2, The Jericho Mile, and more.

He was known for several movies and TV shows. Some of them include Back to the Future, Ruthless People, The Last of the Mohicans, Addams Family Values, The Birdcage, Chain Reaction, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, The Chumscrubber, and more.
