Known professionally as Geneviève de Fontenay, Geneviève Suzanne Marie-Thérèse Mulmann was a French entrepreneur who presided over the Miss France Committee from 1981 to 2007.

In 1954, Fontenay started her work with the Miss France Committee after being hired as its general secretary while Guy Rinaldo served as the committee’s chairman.
Fontenay objected to the concept as “against nature” and “dishonorable” and said it would “dirty the title of Miss France” in 2019 when Sylvie Tellier said she “would not oppose” transgender women competing in Miss France.

Fontenay’s son revealed on August 2, 2023, that she had experienced a heart attack the night of August 1 and had passed away in her sleep at her Saint-Cloud house.

On 2 August 2023, Fontenay’s son announced that she had died in her sleep of cardiac arrest on the night of 1 August, at her Saint-Cloud home.
She was 90. She had been growing weak in the time prior to her death and spent her last moments with her brother and granddaughter.
