Born on September 13, 1953, Iyanla Vanzant was born to Sarah Jefferson and Horace Harris. Her mother died of breast cancer in 1955, when she was just 2 years old, therefore, she was raised by her father’s family.

According to sources, her first husband, Charles Vanzant was very abusive towards her in 1980, therefore, she left the marriage with her children. Real name Rhonda Eva Harris, she was given the title “Iyanla” which means “great mother” after being initiated and ordained as a priestess in the Yoruba tradition.
She has written several books in her career. Some of these books include In the Meantime, Until Today! Daily Devotions for Spiritual Growth and Peace of Mind, Acts of Faith: Meditations for People of Color, Yesterday I Cried, and more.
