Chinese cyclist Shanju Bao was born on November 3rd, 1997. With a new WR time of 31.804 seconds, Bao and her teammate Zhong Tianshi surpassed Team China’s own record, which had been set at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics by Zhong Tianshi and former team sprint partner Gong Jinjie. Bao and Zhong were seen wearing Mao Zedong pin-badges on their team uniform jackets as they received their gold medals at the podium ceremony, suggesting symbolic patriotism.
