Bicyclist Bao Shanju was born in China on November 3, 1997. At the 2020 Summer Olympics, she took part in the women’s team sprint competition. She and colleague Zhong Tianshi achieved a mark of 31.804 seconds in the first round of the competition, breaking the previous record.

In the competition’s final, they both defeated the German team to earn the gold medal.

By setting a new world record in the sprint event with a time of 31.804 seconds, Bao and her teammate Zhong Tianshi shattered the mark that had been achieved by Team China itself in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics by Zhong Tianshi and former teammate Gong Jinjie. Bao and Zhong were spotted wearing Mao Zedong pin-badges on their team-colored coats as they received their gold medals at the podium ceremony.
