What injury does Steph Houghton have?

Houghton, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon in September 2021 and later underwent surgery, was left out of Sarina Wiegman’s squad for the home tournament this year.

England went on to win the Euros in front of a record-breaking crowd at Wembley after beating Germany in the final in July.

Why is Steph Houghton no longer England’s captain?

She initially named Houghton in her very first Lionesses squad after taking charge, in September 2021, and named her as captain, but Houghton suffered an Achilles injury in training and has subsequently not made any appearances for the national side since Wiegman arrived.
