Stephanie Houghton is an English professional footballer who currently plays for Women’s Super League side Manchester City as well as the England women’s national team. Houghton began her career at Sunderland in her native North East England before moving on to Leeds United in 2007 and Arsenal Ladies in 2010.

Houghton began her career in Sunderland, where she spent five years. She was instrumental in Sunderland’s promotion from the Northern Division in 2005-06, and she later won the FA Young Player of the Year Award in 2006-07.

Houghton became the first female player to grace the cover of Shoot magazine in October 2014.

Houghton earned the Freedom of the City of Sunderland in March 2023; at the ceremony, the Sunderland Echo inquired how to spell her surname.
