English professional footballer Stephanie Houghton competes for both the England women’s national team and the Women’s Super League club Manchester City. In her native North East England, Houghton began her club career with Sunderland. She later transferred to Leeds United in 2007 and Arsenal Ladies in 2010.

Houghton played for Sunderland for the first five years of her career. In 2005–06, she assisted Sunderland in getting promoted from the Northern Division, and in 2006–07, she took home the FA Young Player of the Year Award.
Houghton became the first female athlete to grace the cover of Shoot magazine in October 2014.
