Who was Bo Goldman? Oscar Award- Winning Screenwriter Dead at 90

Bo Goldman was an American Academy Award-winning screenwriter who wrote the screenplay for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The film won all five top Academy Awards including an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for Goldman. It was the first film to win five top awards since Frank Capra’s It Happened One Night in 1934. Goldman also received the Writers Guild Award and the Golden Globe Award.

He died on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at the age of 90. No cause of death was announced by his family.

Goldman started his career in 1959 after leaving the military service. He found work on Broadway as the lyricist for First Impressions, a musical based on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

He is known for several movies and TV shows. Some of them include Melvin and Howard, Shoot the Moon, City Hall, Scent of a Woman, The Rose, Completely Cuckoo, Little Nikita, Rules Don’t Apply, Swing Shift, The Flamingo, Meet Joe Black, and more.
