Considering that she was an active politician who was the longest-serving Labour Party standing chair in parliament for the party, it is understandable if she was able to rake in such a great amount of wealth over the years. She served as a Member of Parliament for Cynon Valley for 35 years from 1984 to 2019.

Clwyd died peacefully at her home in Cardiff on July 21, 2023, at the age of 86. She was a member of the Royal Commission on the National Health Service from 1976 to 1979. In 2003, she was chosen for a place to introduce a Private Member’s Bill via a ballot of MPs. She was also admitted to the White Robe of the Gorsedd of Bards at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1991.
