Elder Jeffrey R. Holland has been diagnosed with a kidney problem, which was caused by complications resulting from COVID-19.

Holland is currently on dialysis.
Holland’s wife, Patricia died on July 20, 2023. The couple has been married since 1963, and were blessed with three children, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jeffrey R. Holland’s career basically revolves around religious leadership and education.
Holland has a background in education and served as the ninth President of Brigham Young University (BYU) from 1980 to 1989.

During his tenure, he played a crucial role in improving the university, which is owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and is one of the largest religious universities in the United States.
In 1994, Holland was called to serve as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the LDS Church.
Before he was called as an Apostle, Holland served as the Commissioner of Church Education, overseeing the church’s educational institutions, and as a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy, a group of general authorities who have responsibility for overseeing various geographic regions and administrative aspects of the church.
