Vera Pauw is best known for her contributions to women’s soccer as both a player and a coach. As a player, Vera Pauw had a successful career, representing the Netherlands women’s national team.
She played in several international competitions, including UEFA Women’s Euro and FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifiers. Following her playing career, Vera Pauw transitioned into coaching and became one of the pioneering figures in women’s soccer coaching.

Vera Pauw has managed and coached several women’s national teams, including Scotland, the Netherlands, and South Africa. Pauw’s coaching achievements include guiding the Netherlands to their first major tournament appearance at the 2009 UEFA Women’s Euro.
She also led South Africa’s women’s national team, known as Banyana Banyana, to the 2016 Rio Olympics, where they made history as the first African women’s team to qualify for the Olympic Games. She is currently the manager of the Ireland women’s team
After narrowly missing out on the Women’s Euro 2022, she then led the Irish team to the first-ever major event, the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, with an emotional 1-0 playoff triumph over Scotland.[
