Felipe VI made public his personal assets for the first time, disclosing them to be valued at 2.6 million euros ($2.8 million) on 25 April 2022, amid issues surrounding his father’s ties with Saudi King Abdullah.
According to the Spanish royal palace, Felipe’s wealth is in savings, current accounts, and securities, as well as art, antiquities, and jewelry, and he has no real estate or financial dealings in other countries.
It further stated that Felipe VI had paid taxes on all of his financial earnings and that the “paltry” sum of $2.8 million makes him one of the world’s “poorest monarchs”, despite prior estimations of his father Juan Carlos I’s wealth being between $2-2.3 billion.

Felipe ascended the throne on 19 June 2014 upon the abdication of his father.

His reign has been marked by his dissolution of the Spanish Parliament in 2016 (so that new elections could be called), strong condemnation of the Catalonian independence referendum that led to the 2017–18 Spanish constitutional crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, and moves towards greater transparency in royal affairs.
In addition to his official duties, Felipe serves as honorary president of a number of associations and foundations, including the Codespa Foundation, which funds economic and social development in Ibero-America and other countries, and the Spanish branch of the Association of European Journalists, which is made up of outstanding communications professionals.
The most notable is the Principe de Asturias Foundation, where he presides over the worldwide awards ceremony for the extremely famous Princess of Asturias Awards every year (formerly the Prince of Asturias Awards).
Felipe was named a “UN-Eminent Person” by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in 2001, during the International Year of Volunteers, and he continues to make international contributions to promoting the value of volunteerism.
Felipe is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution due to his patriot ancestor Charles III of Spain.
Felipe is married to TV news journalist Letizia Ortiz (m.2004) and they have two daughters.
Felipe speaks Spanish, Catalan, French, English, and some Greek.
