A panipuri is a deep-fried crisp flatbread filled with flavored water, tamarind chutney, chili powder, chaat masala, potato mash, onion, or chickpeas.

Panipuri has changed a lot throughout the years. The dish was originally known as “gol gappa,” and consisted of a small, hollow, fried wheat shell filled with spicy mashed potatoes and served with tamarind or mint-flavored water.

Variations in the filling and flavored water occurred over time, reflecting regional preferences and ingredient availability.
