Alex Newhook is a Canadian ice hockey player. Alex Newhook is the son of Paula Newhook and Shawn Newhook. He began skating when he was four years old.

Abby Newhook, Newhook’s younger sister, also plays hockey. Abby Newhook is now a member of two women’s hockey teams: Tabor Academy’s team and the Bay State Breakers. Abby Newhook, like her brother Alex, is committed to play hockey at Boston College.

Alex Newhook currently plays as a centre for the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was chosen by the Colorado Avalanche in the first round, 16th overall, of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft.

Alex Newhook won the Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022, becoming the third player from Newfoundland and Labrador to win the Stanley Cup, after Daniel Cleary and Michael Ryder.
He was chosen to represent Canada at the World Junior Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, in 2021. He had three goals and six points during the tournament, which helped Canada win the silver medal after losing the gold medal game to rival United States.
