Marcus Andrew Semien is an American professional baseball shortstop and second baseman for the Major League Baseball (MLB) Texas Rangers.

He is the son of Damien Semien and Tracy White. His mother and father attended the University of California, Berkeley, where Semien’s father, Damien, played football.
In an interview with Sports Illustrated in 2015, Marcus Semien discussed the impact his mother had on his work ethic. Semien said his mother taught him his work ethic and the sacrifices that parents make every day.
“As a parent now, our kids have mom and dad in the house at all all times, but doing it on your own is a bit tougher,” Semien said.

Marcus Semien grew up in El Cerrito Youth Baseball, across the water from San Francisco, pitching and playing infield, and was a part of the area’s All-Star teams.
He continued his education at St. Mary’s College High School in Berkeley, California. He hit.471 as a junior,.371 as a senior, and was chosen all-league three times at St. Mary’s, where he was drafted.
Marcus formerly played for the Chicago White Sox, Oakland A’s, and Toronto Blue Jays in Major League Baseball. Semien was an All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021, winning the Gold Glove Award and Silver Slugger Award.
