From 1980 until 1984, he was the Arkansas Electric Cooperative Corporation’s director of government affairs.

He was elected Arkansas Commissioner of State Lands in 1984 and was re-elected to four-year terms in 1986, 1990, 1994, and 1998.

He was elected Arkansas Secretary of State for the 32nd time in 2002, defeating Republican Party contender Janet Huckabee, the wife of then-Governor Mike Huckabee, and was re-elected in 2006.

In 2010, he ran for State Auditor, opposed only by Green Party candidate Mary Hughes-Willis. He won the election and took office in January 2011. However, he announced in 2013 that he would not seek re-election in the 2014 elections.

Daniels served in the United States Air Force and the Air Force Reserve before venturing into politics.

He attended Southern Arkansas University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

Daniels was married to Patricia Ann Burleson for 46 years until her death and they had two children. In addition, he had four grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson.
