American pianist, Peter Nero has died at the age of 89. He died on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Home Care Assisted Living Facility in Eustis, Fla.

Tributes have been pouring in after his death was announced.

He actually gave piano lessons in NYC back in the 50s. He was Bernie Nierow then. But the world soon came to know him as Peter Nero. He created the Philly Pops in 1979 and entertained and charmed people around the globe. And in his final 12 years, we became friends. RIP Peter,” Veteran news anchor, Jim Gardner shared.

I am disappointed to learn he died but more disappointed I can’t add him to my nominative determinism list. He should have plated the FIDDLE,” Josh Wolfe shared.

I love that he composed the score for (and appeared in) “Sunday in New York,” which TCM shows often. When I grew up, his work have an album on the charts, the world must have stopped turning. Rest in peace, piano great,” Jay Bobbin.
