What is Billy Dee Williams famous for?

American actor, novelist and painter Billy Dee Williams is famous for his acting career, particularly for his portrayal of the character Lando Calrissian in the “Star Wars” franchise.

He first appeared as Lando in “Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back” (1980) and reprised the role in “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi” (1983) and “Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker” (2019).

Aside from “Star Wars,” Williams has appeared in numerous films and television shows throughout his career. Since 1966, Williams has had over sixty television credits, including recurring parts in Gideon’s Crossing, Dynasty, General Hospital: Night Shift, and General Hospital.

Among his many cameos and supporting roles were appearances with Marla Gibbs on The Jeffersons, 227, and The Hughleys. Later roles included voice acting in Titan Maximum (2009) and appearances on Dancing with the Stars (2014).

He has received various prizes and honours for his work, including three NAACP Image prizes and the NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award.
