Foakes made his Essex debut in a first-class game against the visiting Sri Lankans at the County Ground in Chelmsford during the 2011 English season.
Tissara Perera bowled him out for 5 runs in Essex’s opening inning. He made three catches from behind the stumps, two in the first innings of the Sri Lankans and one in the second. He agreed to a professional contract in September 2011 that is valid till 2013.
