Allison Mack, an American actress known for her role in the television series “Smallville,” found herself embroiled in a highly publicized legal case that had a significant impact on her personal life and career.

In 2018, Mack was arrested and indicted on charges related to her involvement in the organization NXIVM which was later revealed to be involved in illegal activities and described as a cult.
Within NXIVM, Mack played a prominent role and was known as one of the closest associates of the organization’s leader, Keith Raniere. She was involved in recruiting women into a secret society within NXIVM called DOS (Dominus Obsequious Sororium), which operated as a “master-slave” group.

Allison Mack was reported to have used manipulation and coercion to recruit women, and members of DOS were subjected to physical branding as part of a ritual. She herself had been branded with Raniere’s initials.
In April 2019, Allison Mack pleaded guilty to racketeering charges, including racketeering conspiracy and racketeering acts of extortion and forced labor.
Mack was sentenced to three years in jail, three years of probation, 1,000 hours of community service, and a $20,000 fine on June 30, 2021. Mack was assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution, Dublin, in Dublin, California, in September 2021. After serving 21 months of her three-year sentence, she was freed early on July 3, 2023.
