Born on February 10, 1941, Arrington graduated from Henry McNeal Turner High School in 1959 and went on to attend Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University) on a football scholarship.
He graduated from Clark in 1963 with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
He began his legal studies in 1994 at Howard University but transferred to Emory University School of Law after his first year. He graduated with his Juris doctor degree from Emory in 1967.

He went on to have not only a long but a successful legal career, serving on the city’s Board of Alderman which was the city’s representative body before converting to City Council.
He was elected to the Atlanta Board of Alderman (now called Atlanta City Council) in 1969 and became president in 1980.
In 1997, he ran for mayor of Atlanta but lost to incumbent Bill Campbell.
He was appointed to Fulton County Superior Court Judge in 2002 by then Gov. Roy Barnes and retired in 2012.
Arrington was voted one of Atlanta’s top 25 lawyers by Atlanta Magazine and was included by Black Enterprise Magazine in their list of America’s “Top 10 Black Law Firms”.
