David Thewlis Career

David Thewlis gained international recognition for his role as Johnny in the 1993 film Naked, which earned him the Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival.

Since then, he has appeared in various films, TV series, and theater productions.

In 1998, Thewlis appeared in the Coen brothers film “The Big Lebowski” in 1998, playing the character Knox Harrington. He also portrayed Remus Lupin in many of the “Harry Potter” film series.

Other notable films he has been include Seven Years in Tibet, The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas,  and Anomalisa.

Thewlis additionally appeared in many TV series including Fargo, Barkskins, Big Mouth, the HBO miniseries Landscapers, The Sandman and many more.

In 2025, Thewlis will starr as Peylak in the upcoming American epic science fiction film Avatar 3 & Avatar 4.
